Rainbow, Tefilin, Tzitzit, blue, white, and the reading of Sh'ma

Synopsis

The metaphor of a marriage is used to explain the unification of Zeir Anpin and Malchut.

Relevance

The ultimate mating, the joining of our world of Malchut with Heaven - the realm of Zeir Anpin - occurs as our eyes wed with the letters that speak this wisdom. In turn, our own sexual relations with our spouse are imbued with holiness, generating for us divine pleasure and fulfillment.

Once again, the healing forces associated with the Sh'ma Yisrael prayer now remedy and regenerate the 248 parts of our body and soul. Moreover, sharing this Light with our fellow man while we meditate upon verses 336 and 337 heals the collective body and soul of man.

Verse 337 interweaves Judgment with Mercy so that leniency and great compassion mark our Final Redemption - both personally and globally.

334. The seventh correction is "As the appearance of the rainbow that is in the cloud in the day of rain" (Yechezkel 1:28). The sages said: 'The study of the Divine Chariot is from "And I looked AND, BEHOLD, A STORM WIND" (Ibid. 4) until "As the appearance of the rainbow," these are the study of the Divine Chariot.' And the sages further said: 'When Rabbi Akiva was expounding the study of the Divine Chariot, fire came down from heaven and engulfed the trees, and the ministering angels assembled as though at the enjoyment of groom with bride.' FOR THE CHARIOT IS THE SECRET OF THE UNIFICATION OF YUD HEI VAV HEI AND ADONAI, WHICH ARE THE SECRET OF GROOM AND BRIDE. THIS IS THE REASON FOR THE STUDY OF THE DIVINE CHARIOT TO CONCLUDE WITH THE VERSE STARTING "AS THE APPEARANCE OF THE RAINBOW," for there is no unification and connection and Chariot for the name Yud Hei Vav Hei with Adonai other than by means of the Righteous, WHICH IS YESOD, that is CALLED 'rainbow.' For through him is the upper Chariot, which is Yud-Aleph-Hei Dalet-Vav-Nun-Hei-Yud, complete.

334. תִּקּוּנָא שְׁבִיעָאָה, כְּמַרְאֵה הַקֶּשֶׁת אֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶה בֶּעָנָן בְּיוֹם הַגֶּשֶׁם. אָמְרוּ רַבָּנָן, מִן וָאֵרֶא עַד כְּמַרְאֵה הַקֶּשֶׁת הֵן הֵן מַעֲשֵׂה הַמֶּרְכָּבָה. וְאָמְרוּ חֲכָמִים, כְּשֶׁהָיָה ר"ע דּוֹרֵשׁ בְּמַעֲשֵׂה מֶרְכָּבָה, יָרְדָה אֵשׁ מִן הַשָּׁמַיִם, וְסִבְּבָה הָאִילָנוֹת. וְהָיוּ מִתְקַבְּצִין מַלְאֲכֵי הַשָּׁרֵת כִּבְמִזְמוּטֵי חָתָן וְכַלָּה. בְּגִין דְּלֵית יִחוּדָא וְקִשּׁוּרָא וּמֶרְכָּבָה, לְשֵׁם יְדֹוָ"ד בַּאֲדֹנָ"י, אֶלָּא בְּצַדִּיק. דְּאִיהוּ קֶשֶׁת, דְּבֵיהּ מֶרְכַּבְתָּא שְׁלֵימָתָא דִּלְעֵילָּא, יְאֲהַדֹוָנָה"י.

336. 337. And the bride under the wedding canopy, NAMELY IN THE UNIFICATION OF THE READING OF SH'MA WHICH IS CALLED 'A WEDDING CANOPY,' is in the form of the corners of the Tzitzit, which, in the fringes, are gilded. THAT IS TO SAY THAT THEY ARE BOUND WITH BLUE, WHICH IS THE SECRET OF THE ILLUMINATION OF CHOCHMAH, WHICH IS DRAWN DOWN FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF BINAH, WHICH IS CALLED 'GOLD.' AND THUS THE FRINGES ARE AS THOUGH GILDED WITH BLUE. And the blue and the white THAT ARE IN THE FRINGES are the Throne of Judgment and the Throne of Mercy interwoven with each other, FOR BLUE IS JUDGMENT AND WHITE IS MERCY. And there are a number of knots and links surrounding THE FRINGES with a number of pearls and precious stones, NAMELY THE LIGHTS OF CHOCHMAH AND CHASSADIM, full of special qualities surrounding it in the form of bells and pomegranates of the apparel of the King and the Queen, which are the four white garments OF ZEIR ANPIN, and the four gold garments OF MALCHUT, which are from the side of the two names, Yud Hei Vav Hei and Adonai. As is His name, so is His throne, so is His wedding canopy, so is His apparel. His name is marked on all, WHICH IS YESOD, WHO IS CALLED 'ALL' when He wishes to enter His palace so the groom shall be there with His bride, in the eighteen blessings of the prayer, WHERE EIGHTEEN HINTS AT YESOD, which is "As the appearance of the rainbow," NAMELY YESOD, AS ABOVE.

337. וְכַלָּה בְּחוּפָּה, דְּאִיהִי בְּדִיּוּקְנָא דְּכַנְפֵי מִצְוָה, בְּצִיצִיוֹת מוּזְהָבוֹת, וּתְכֵלֶת וְלָבָן, כִּסֵּא דֵּין וְכִסֵּא רַחֲמִים, כָּלִיל דָּא בְּדָא. וְכַמָּה קְשָׁרִים וְחֻלְיָין, סַחֲרָנֵיהּ. בְּכַמָּה מַרְגְּלָאן וַאֲבָנִין יַקִּירִין, מַלְיָין סְגוּלוֹת, סַחֲרִין לְגַבֵּיהּ, כְּדִּיוּקְנָא דְּזָגִין וְרִמּוֹנִין, דִּלְבוּשֵׁי מַלְכָּא וּמַטְרוֹנִיתָא, דְּאִינּוּן ד' בִּגְדֵי לָבָן, וְד' בִּגְדֵי זָהָב, מִסִּטְרָא דִּתְרֵין שְׁמָהָן, יְדֹוָ"ד אֲדֹנָ"י, כִּשְׁמוֹ כֵּן כִּסְאוֹ, כֵּן חוּפָתוֹ, כֵּן לְבוּשׁוֹ. רָשִׁים שְׁמֵיהּ בְּכֹלָּא, כַּד בָּעֵי לְאַעֲלָא בְּהֵיכָלֵיהּ, לְמֶהֱוֵי תַּמָּן חָתָן בְּכַלָּתֵיהּ, בח"י בִּרְכָאן דִּצְלוֹתָא, דְּאִיהִי כְּמַרְאֵה הַקֶּשֶׁת.
