Fifth chamber: Gvurah

Synopsis

The souls who have made complete repentance reside in the fifth chamber. At its entrance stands King Menasheh, the King of Judah, who committed terrible sins throughout his life. Nevertheless, the King atoned for his wrongdoings and his repentance was accepted by The Creator.

21. Within the fifth chamber reside all those whose repentance is complete -those who have repudiated their wrong deeds and have been consoled for them. THIS MEANS THAT THEY HAVE REPENTED THROUGH LOVE. THEN THEIR WICKEDNESS IS TRANSFORMED INTO VIRTUE AND THEY ARE CONSOLED FOR ALL THEIR SINS BECAUSE THEY HAVE RECEIVED MERIT FOR REPENTING THEM. Their souls leave them purified. In this chamber also RESIDE those who have sanctified their Master's name and have taken upon themselves self-sacrifice FOR HIS HONOR, BLESSED BE HE. And at the entrance to the chamber stands Menasheh, the King of Judah, who has entirely repented his sins and whose repentance the Holy One, blessed be He, accepted. The Holy One, blessed be He, created a recess for his sake UNDERNEATH THE THRONE OF GLORY, to receive him. THAT IS, HE CONCEALED HIM AS IF UNDERGROUND FROM THE EYES OF THE PROSECUTORS SO THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASK FOR JUDGMENT OF HIM.

21. בְּהֵיכָלָא חֲמִישָׁאָה, קַיָּימִין כָּל אִינוּן מָארֵיהוֹן דִּתְיוּבְתָּא שְׁלֵימְתָּא, דְּתָבוּ מֵחֲטָאֵיהוֹן וְאִתְנַחֲמוּ בְּהוֹ, וְנָפְקַת נִשְׁמָתַיְיהוּ בְּדַכְיוּ, וְכָל אִינוּן דְּקַדִּישׁוּ שְׁמָא דְּמָרֵיהוֹן, וְקַבִּילוּ עֲלַיְיהוּ מוֹתָא, וּבְתַרְעָא דְהַאי הֵיכָלָא, קָאֵים מְנַשֶּׁה מֶלֶךְ יְהוּדָה, דְּקָבֵיל לֵיהּ קֻדְשָׁא בְּרִיךְ הוּא בִּתְיוּבְתָּא שְׁלֵימְתָּא, וַחֲתַר לֵיהּ חֲתִירָא לְקַבְּלָא לֵיהּ.

22. And within this chamber reside all those whose repentance is immense, who GAINED SO MUCH POWER THROUGH THEIR REPENTANCE OF MISDEEDS IN LIFE that their souls left through disgust at their own evil actions. They delight in the supernal Eden each and every day. Three times a day the light enters this chamber in which the souls experience bliss, each to the extent that it deserves. THESE THREE TIMES CORRESPOND TO THE THREE COLUMNS TO WHICH THE LIGHTS OF THE THREE TOP SFIROT ARE DRAWN. And each is burned by the light of the canopy of his neighbor, be it in the upper CHAMBERS or the lower. THIS MEANS THAT THE LEVELS OF THE RIGHTEOUS ARE NOT EAQUAL NEITHER IN THE UPPER CHAMBERS NOR THE LOWER. EACH HAS A CANOPY OF HIS OWN THAT NO OTHER CAN TOUCH WITHOUT BEING BURNED.

22. וּלְגוֹ מֵהַאי הֵיכָלָא, קַיָּימִין, כָּל אִינוּן מָארֵיהוֹן דִּתְיוּבְתָּא תַּקִּיפָא, דְּנִשְׁמַתְהוֹן נָפְקַת, בְּשַׁעֲתָא דְּאִתְמַרְמְרוּ עַל עוֹבָדֵיהוֹן, וְאִלֵּין מִתְעַדְּנִין בְּעִדּוּנָא עִלָּאָה, בְּכָל יוֹמָא וְיוֹמָא. וּתְלַת זִמְנִין בְּיוֹמָא, נְהִירוּ עָאל בְּהַהוּא הֵיכָלָא, דְּמִתְעַדְּנִין בֵּיהּ כָּל חַד וְחַד כִּדְקָא חָזֵי לֵיהּ. וְכָל חַד נִכְוָה, מִנְהִירוּ דְּחוּפָּה דְּחַבְרֵיהּ, בֵּין לְתַתָּא בֵּין לְעֵילָא.

23. הַאי הֵיכָלָא קַיְימָא, עַל אִינוּן הֵיכְלֵי תַּתָּאֵי, וַאֲפִלּוּ צַדִּיקִים גְּמוּרִין לָא יָכְלִין לְאַעֲלָאָה בְּגוֹ הַאי הֵיכָלָא, וּלְמֵיקַם בֵּיהּ, וְהַאי אִיהוּ דַרְגָּא עִלָּאָה עַל כֹּלָּא, בַּר דַּרְגָא דַּחֲסִידֵי דְּאִיהוּ דַרְגָא עִלָּאָה עַל כֹּלָּא.
