"The angel who redeemed," part two

Synopsis

The redeeming angel, Metatron, receives blessings and then bestows them upon the world. This angel is male when procuring blessings for the world, and is female when there is judgment in the world. The angel includes all the colors - red, white, and green - and has many shapes.

Relevance

The power of redemption, blessing, and balance between mercy and judgment and male and female energies, is made available to the readers of this ancient text. This effect is achieved through a mystical connection to the angel Metatron.

467. He opened the discussion saying, "The angel who redeemed me from all evil" (Beresheet 48:16). We have studied it already, yet it is written, "Behold, I send an angel before you..." (Shemot 23:20). This is the angel who redeems the world, CALLED THE REDEEMING ANGEL, who protects people, AS IT SAYS "TO KEEP YOU IN THE WAY" (IBID.). It secures blessings for the whole world, first receiving them, and then providing them to the world; NAMELY THE ANGEL METATRON. It is therefore written, "Behold, I send an angel before you" and "and I will send an angel before you" (Shemot 33:2).

467. פְּתַח וַאֲמַר, הַמַּלְאָךְ הַגּוֹאֵל אוֹתִי מִכָּל רָע, הָא אִתְּמָר וְאוֹקְמוּהָ. אֲבָל תָּא חֲזֵי, כְּתִיב הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי שׁוֹלֵחַ מַלְאָךְ וגו,' דָּא הוּא מַלְאָךְ דְּאִיהוּ פָּרוֹקָא דְעַלְמָא, נְטִירוּ דִּבְנֵי נָשָׁא, וְהַאי אִיהוּ דְּאַזְמִין בִּרְכָאן לְכָל עַלְמָא, בְּגִין דְּאִיהוּ נָטֵיל לוֹן בְּקַדְמֵיתָא, ולְבָתַר אִיהוּ אַזְמִין לוֹן בְּעַלְמָא, וּבְגִין דָּא כְּתִיב, הִנֵּה אָנֹכִי שׁוֹלֵחַ מַלְאָךְ לְפָנֶיךָ. וְשָׁלַחְתִּי לְפָנֶיךָ מַלְאָךְ.

468. וְהַאי אִיהוּ מַלְאָךְ, דִּלְזִמְנִין דָּכָר, וּלְזִמְנִין נוּקְבָא, וְהָכֵי אִיהוּ, דִּבְזִמְנָא דְּאִיהוּ אַזְמִין בִּרְכָאן לְעַלְמָא, כְּדֵין אִיהוּ דָּכָר, וְאִקְרֵי דָּכָר. כִּדְכוּרָא דְּאַזְמִין בִּרְכָאן לְנוּקְבָא. הָכֵי אִיהוּ אַזְמִין בִּרְכָאן לְעַלְמָא. וּבְזִמְנָא דְּקָיְימָא בְּדִינָא עַל עַלְמָא, כְּדֵין אִקְרֵי נוּקְבָא, כְּנוּקְבָא דְּאִיהִי עוּבָּרָא, הָכֵי אִיהוּ אִתְמְלֵי מִן דִּינָא, וּכְדֵין אִקְרֵי נוּקְבָא. וְעַל דָּא לְזִמְנִין אִקְרֵי דְכוּרָא, וּלְזִמְנִין אִקְרֵי נוּקְבָא, וְכֹלָּא רָזָא חָדָא.

469. It is likewise written, "And the bright blade of a revolving sword" (Beresheet 3:24); NAMELY there are angel messengers in the world which revolve and turn into several shapes, sometimes female and sometimes male, now Judgment and now Mercy, and all is the same matter. In the same manner, this angel has many shapes, and all the colors, WHITE, RED AND GREEN, of the world, THE NUKVA, are in this place. This is the mystery of: "As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of Hashem" (Yechezkel 1:28). THE APPEARANCE OF THE BOW, THE NUKVA, CONTAINS THE THREE COLORS. Since THE ANGEL has the three colors, he leads the world.

469. כְּגַוְונָא דָא כְּתִיב, וְאֶת לַהַט הַחֶרֶב הַמִּתְהַפֶּכֶת, מַלְאָכִין אִית שְׁלָחוּן בְּעַלְמָא, דְּמִתְהַפְּכִין לְכַמָּה גְוָונִין, לְזִמְנִין נוּקְבֵי, לְזִמְנִין דְּכוּרֵי, לְזִמְנִין דִּינָא, לְזִמְנִין רַחֲמֵי, וְכֹלָּא בְּחַד גַּוְונָא. כְּגַוְונָא דָּא הַאי מַלְאָךְ, בִּגְוָונִין סַגִּיאִין אִיהוּ, וְכָל גְּוָונִין דְּעַלְמָא, כֻּלְּהוּ אִיתְנָהוּ בְּהַאי אֲתַר. וְרָזָא דָא כְּמַרְאֵה הַקֶּשֶׁת אֲשֶׁר יִהְיֶה בֶעָנָן בְּיוֹם הַגֶּשֶׁם כֵּן מַרְאֵה הַנֹּגַּהּ סָבִיב הוּא מַרְאֵה דְּמוּת כְּבוֹד ה.' וּכְמָה דְּאִית בֵּיהּ כָּל אִינוּן גְּוָונִין, הָכֵי נָמֵי אַנְהֵיג לְכָל עָלְמָא.
