Second chamber of the Other Side, grave - unholy of the Evil Inclination

Synopsis

The second chamber is darker than the first one, and is called 'grave'. Rabbi Shimon talks about the chiefs in charge of the three openings in the chamber and the fiends under them. This chamber is prepared for those who have done sexual crimes during their lives. Two spirits called 'evil' and 'plague' come out of this chamber and hover over the world, they are called the 'lower spirits' and they come out of the flame of fire.

853. The second chamber OF THE OTHER SIDE is darker than the first chamber. It is called 'grave', corresponding to the name OF THE EVIL INCLINATION 'unholy', just as the first chamber is called 'pit' corresponding to the name OF THE EVIL INCLINATION 'the Satan'. And this one is called 'grave' in relation to the name OF THE EVIL INCLINATION THAT 'unholy'. This chamber has three openings.

853. הֵיכָלָא תִּנְיָינָא, הֵיכָלָא דָּא, אִיהוּ חָשׁוּךְ יַתִּיר עַל הֵיכָלָא קַדְמָאָה, הַאי אִקְרֵי שָׁחַת, לָקֳבֵל שְׁמָא דְּאִקְרֵי טָמֵא. בְּגִין דְּהֵיכָלָא קַדְמָאָה אִקְרֵי בּוֹר, לָקֳבֵל שְׁמָא דְּאִקְרֵי שָׂטָן. וְהַאי אִקְרֵי שָׁחַת, לָקֳבֵל שְׁמָא דְּאִקְרֵי טָמֵא. בְּהֵיכָלָא דָּא קַיְימִין תְּלַת פִּתְחִין, לִתְלַת סִטְרִין.

Astiriya (Spirit) Ground Hands Harlotry Semen Shechinah Soul, The

854. There is a chief in charge over the first opening, called 'Astiriya', and there are several thousands and tens of thousands OF FIENDS under him. He is in charge over all those who became corrupted in their ways, and spill semen on the ground, emit semen unnaturally, or play harlot with their hands, and do not see the Shechinah at all. At that time the chief on the side of defilement, whom we mentioned, comes out, with the thousands and tens of thousands WITH HIM. They all gather upon the man, to defile him in this world. This chief and his retinue defile his soul, seize it, and bring it to be judged by them.

854. פִּתְחָא קַדְמָאָה. בֵּיהּ קַיְּימָא חַד מְמָנָא, עַסְטִירִיָּ"א שְׁמֵיהּ. וְכַמָּה אֶלֶף וְרִבְּבָן מְמָנָן תְּחוֹתֵיהּ, וְהַאי אִיהוּ קַיְּימָא עַל כָּל אִינּוּן דִּמְחַבְּלֵי אָרְחַיְיהוּ, לְאוֹשָׁדָא זַרְעָא עַל אַרְעָא. אוֹ דְּמַפְקֵי זַרְעָא, דְּלָא כְּאָרְחָא. אוֹ לְכָל אִינּוּן דִּמְזָנוּ בִּידַיְיהוּ. אִלֵּין אִינּוּן דְּלָא חָמָאן אַנְפֵּי שְׁכִינְתָּא כְּלַל. אֶלָּא הַאי מְמָנָא דְּבִסְטַר מִסְאֲבָא דְּקַאמְרָן, נָפִיק בְּהַהוּא זִמְנָא, וְכַמָּה אִינּוּן אֶלֶף וְרִבְּבָן, כֻּלְּהוּ מִתְכַּנְּפֵי עַל הַהוּא ב"נ, וּמְסָאֲבֵי לֵיהּ בְּהַאי עָלְמָא. וּלְבָתַר כַּד נָפַק נִשְׁמָתֵיהּ מִנֵּיה מֵהַאי עָלְמָא, הַאי מְמָנָא וְכָל אִינּוּן דְּעִמֵּיהּ, מְסָאֲבִין לֵיהּ לְנִשְׁמָתֵיהּ, וְאַחֲדִין בָּהּ, וְאָעִילוּ לָהּ לְאִתְּדָּנָא בְּהוּ.

855. These FIENDS are called 'steaming emission of sperm', for all the angry and defiled live on it, to hover about the man in heat. They increase his passion, then take it, together with the semen that was spilt to the ground, which strengthens them, and raise it above. They cause the covenant ABOVE, WHICH IS YESOD, to be enslaved by the side of unholiness TO GIVE THEM ENJOYMENT AND STRENGTH.

855. וְאִלֵּין אִקְרוּן שִׁכְבַת זֶרַע רוֹתַחַת. דְּכֻלְּהוּ רוּגְזִין מִסְאֲבִין קַיְימִין כֻּלְּהוּ עַל דָּא, בְּגִין דְּכֻלְּהוּ קַיְימִין וְשָׁרָאן עָלֵיהּ דְּבַר נָשׁ, בְּהַהוּא זִמְנָא דְּאַרְתַּח גַּרְמֵיהּ, וְחָמִים לֵיהּ לְתִיאוּבְתָּא דָּא. וּכְדֵין נַטְלִין לֵיהּ לְהַהוּא תִּיאוּבְתָּא. וְהַהוּא זַרְעָא דְּאִתּוֹשָׁד בְּאַרְעָא. וְאִתְתָּקָפוּ בֵּיהּ, וְנַטְלֵי לֵיהּ. וְסַלְקֵי לֵיהּ לְעֵילָּא, וְגָרְמוּ דִּבְרִית דָּא דְּיִשְׁתַּעְבֵּד בִּסְטָר מִסְאֲבָא.

Beasts Ground Incest Taskifa (Spirit) Torah

856. Over the second opening there is another chief, Taskifa by name. He is in charge over all those who corrupt their way, and do not spill their sperm upon the ground but in beasts, or through the strict prohibitions of the Torah, such as sexual transgressions. This chief and his retinue of several thousands and tens of thousands are all in readiness to judge him, in the same way as we said concerning the other CONDEMNED IN THE FIRST OPENING.

856. פִּתְחָא תִּנְיָינָא, בֵּיהּ קַיְּימָא מְמָנָא אַחֲרָא, טַסְקִיפָ"ה שְׁמֵיהּ, וְהַאי אִיהוּ מְמָנָא, עַל כָּל אִינּוּן דִּמְחַבְּלֵי אָרְחַיְיהוּ, דְּלָא אוֹשְׁדֵי זַרְעָא עַל אַרְעָא, אֶלָּא דְּאוֹשְׁדֵי זַרְעָא בִּבְעִירֵי, אוֹ בְּאִיסוּרִין חֲמוּרִין דְּאוֹרַיְיתָא, בְּאִינּוּן עֲרָיוֹת, הַאי מְמָנָא וְכַמָּה אֶלֶף וְרִבְּבָן דְּעִמֵּיהּ, כֻּלְּהוּ קַיְימֵי עָלֵיהּ, לְאִתְּדָּנָא לֵיהּ כְּמַה דְּאִתְּמַר בְּאִינּוּן אַחֲרָנִין.

857. Come and see: This chief has a cup in his hand called "the cup of poison," "the cup of His fury" (Yeshayah 51:17). Those who were killed by court or punished for these transgressions are torn from the sides of unholiness, and have no portion in them, or in the cup called "the cup of poison," because they first drank of another cup, BY THE COURT, PRIOR TO THEIR DEATHS. AND DEATH BY COURT IS THEIR ATONEMENT.

857. ת"ח, מַאי מְמָנָא בִּידֵיהּ כַּסָא חֲדָא, וְאִקְרֵי כּוֹס הַתַּרְעֵלָה כּוֹס חֲמָתוֹ, וְכָל אִינּוּן קְטוּלֵי בֵּית דִּין, דְּאִתְקְטָלוּ, אוֹ אִתְעֲנָשׁוּ עַל חוֹבִין אִלֵּין, כֻּלְּהוּ אִתְעֲקָרוּ מֵאִלֵּין סִטְרִין מִסְאֲבִין, וְלָא אִית לוֹן חוּלָקָא בְּהוֹן, וּבְהַאי כַּסָּא דְּאִקְרֵי כּוֹס הַתַּרְעֵלָה, בְּגִין כַּסָּא אַחֲרָא דְּשָׁתוּ בְּקַדְמֵיתָא.

Court Judgment Soul, The

858. All those who have not drunk of the cup of the court, NAMELY, WERE NOT EXECUTED BY COURT, so that the cup of poison will be torn from them, later, when the soul leaves this world, that chieftain and those with him seize it. This is, "a bitter day" (Amos 8:10), and the soul is filled with all those punishments that are different than each other.

858. וְכָל אִינּוּן דְּלָא שָׁתוּ הַהוּא כַּסָּא דב"ד, לְאִתְעַקְּרָא מֵהַאי כּוֹס הַתַּרְעֵלָה, לְבָתַר כַּד נָפִיק נִשְׁמָתֵיהּ מֵהַאי עָלְמָא, הַאי מְמָנָא וְכָל אִינּוּן דְּעִמֵּיהּ, אֲחִידָן בֵּיהּ וְדָא הוּא יוֹם הַמָּר, וְרַוֵּי לָהּ לְהַאי נִשְׁמְתָא, מִכַּמָּה דִּינִין מְשַׁנְיָין אִלֵּין מֵאִלֵּין.

859. In this chamber there is a spirit in charge over those WE MENTIONED. He is Niatziriel. From this fierce spirit come out three bitter drops, that fall into the cup of poison. One is called 'division' (Heb. chatzatz), WHICH IS DERIVED FROM EXCISION AND ANNIHILATION, AS IN "WHEN THE NUMBER OF HIS MONTHS IS ALREADY COMPLETE (HEB. CHUTZATZU)" (IYOV 21:21); the second is called "the bitterness of death," AS IS WRITTEN, "SURELY THE BITTERNESS OF DEATH IS PAST" (I SHMUEL 15:32); the third is called "dregs," AS IS WRITTEN, "THE DREGS, THE CUP OF POISON" (YESHAYAH 51:17). These three drops afterwards fall from the cup to the sword OF THE ANGEL OF DEATH, who kills people, as we said.

859. בְּהֵיכָלָא דָּא, קַיְּימָא חַד רוּחָא, דְּאִלֵּין מְמָנָן תְּחוֹתֵיהּ, וְדָא הוּא נִיאֲצִירִיאֵ"ל. מֵהַאי רוּחָא תַּקִּיפָא, נַפְקֵי תְּלַת טִיפִּין, מְרִירָן, דְּנַפְלֵי בְּהַאי כּוֹס הַתַּרְעֵלָה. חַד אִקְרֵי חָצָ"ץ. וְחַד, אִקְרֵי מַר הַמָוֶת וְחַד אִקְרֵי קוּבַּעַ"ת, וְאִלֵּין תְּלַת טִיפִּין נָפְלוּ לְבָתַר מֵהַאי כּוֹס, בְּהַהִיא חַרְבָּא דְּקָטְלָא בְּנֵי נָשָׁא, כְּמָה דְּאוּקְמוּהָ.

860. In the third opening stands a chief called 'Sangadiel'. He is in charge over all those who put the member of the Holy Covenant in a woman on the side of a strange El, and all those who corrupt their ways by being false to the sign of the Holy Covenant. This chief and all the chiefs with him paint on them pictures of these unholy women, by whom their holy member was defiled. All these are recorded before him, and when the man leaves this world, they defile the spirit.

860. פִּתְחָא תְּלִיתָאָה, בֵּיהּ קַיְּימָא מְמָנָא חַד סַנְגַּדִּיאֵ"ל שְׁמֵיהּ, וְהַאי אִיהוּ מְמָנָא, עַל כָּל אִינּוּן דְּעַיְילֵי הַאי בְּרִית קַדִּישָׁא, בְּאִינְתּוּ אַחֲרָא, דְּאִיהוּ מֵהַהוּא סִטְרָא דְּאֵל נֵכָר. וְכָל אִינּוּן דִּמְחַבְּלֵי אָרְחַיְיהוּ בְּדָא, וּמְשַׁקְרֵי בְּאָת קַיָּימָא קַדִּישָׁא, הַאי מְמָנָא, וְכָל אִינּוּן מְמָנָן דְּעִמֵּיהּ, כֻּלְּהוּ מְצַיְּירֵי בְּגַוַויְיהוּ, צִיּוּרִין דְּאִינּוּן נָשִׁין מִסְאֲבִין, דְּאִסְתְּאָב בְּהוּ הַהוּא קַיְּימָא קַדִּישָׁא, וְכֻלְּהוּ אִתְרְשִׁימוּ קַמֵּיהּ, כַּד נָפִיק בַּר נָשׁ מֵהַאי עָלְמָא, וּמְסָאֲבֵי לֵיהּ לְבָתַר לְהַהוּא רוּחָא.

Balaam Beasts Chambers Semen Sorcery Witchcraft

861. In this chamber are all the secrets of sorcery of killing people before their time and all the magic rhat people use IS STORED HERE. All the sorcerers, who practice magic to be defiled by them, like Bilaam who cast spells, were first defiled by the steaming semen they spilled in beasts. For that Bilaam was sentenced to the steaming emission of sperm, as we said. Therefore, this chamber is called 'unholy grave'.

861. וְהֵיכָלָא דָּא, תַּלְיָין כָּל רָזֵי דְּחָרָשִׁין, לְקָטְלָא בְּנֵי נָשָׁא עַד לָא יִמְטֵי זִמְנַיְיהוּ, וְכֻלְּהוּ חַרְשִׁין דְּאִצְטְרִיכוּ בְּנֵי נָשָׁא. אִינּוּן דְּחָרְשֵׁי חַרְשַׁיְיהוּ לְאִסְתַּאֲבָא בְּהוּ, כְּגוֹן דַּהֲוָה בִּלְעָם, חָרָשׁ בְּחַרְשׁוֹי, וְאִסְתְּאַב בְּקַדְמֵיתָא בִּמְסָאֲבוּ דְּזַרְעָא רוֹתַחַת דְּאַשְׁדֵי בִּבְעִירֵי, וּבְגִין דָּא, בֵּיהּ אִתְּדָּן, בְּהַהוּא שִׁכְבַת זֶרַע רוֹתַחַת דְּקַאמְרָן. וע"ד, הַאי הֵיכָלָא אִקְרֵי, שָׁחַת טָמֵא.

Chambers Dreams Sartaya (Spirit)

862. There is another spirit in that chamber, in charge under the higher spirit. He is called 'Sartaya', and has many thousands and tens of thousands under him. They all are sustained by and wait for the word, which comes out with the spirit of man, in his dream that comes from the holy side. This defiled spirit and all the complainants with him come out to join that word. They descend upon it to join it, to disprove the matter to him, and let him know other things instead, some of them false and some true.

862. וּבְהַאי הֵיכָלָא, אִית רוּחָא אַחֲרָא, דִּי מְמָנָא תְּחוֹת הַהוּא רוּחָא דִּלְעֵילָּא, וְהַאי אִקְרֵי סַרְטַיָ"א, וְכַמָּה אֶלֶף וְרִבְּבָן תְּחוֹתֵיהּ. וְכֻלְּהוּ קַיְימֵי עַל הַהִיא מִלָּה, דְּנָפִיק בַּהֲדֵי רוּחָא דב"נ בְּחֶלְמָא, מִגּוֹ סִטְרָא קַדִּישָׁא. הַאי רוּחָא מִסְאֲבָא, וְכָל אִינּוּן גַּרְדִּינִין דְּעִמֵּיהּ, כֻּלְּהוּ נַפְקֵי וּמִתְחַבְּרָאן בְּהַהִיא מִלָּה, וְנַחְתֵּי בָּהּ, וּמִתְעָרְבֵי בַּהֲדָהּ, בְּגִין לְאַכְחֲשָׁא לָהּ מִנֵּיהּ, וְאוֹדְעִין לֵיהּ לב"נ מִלִּין אַחֲרָנִין, מִילִין כְּדִיבִין, בְּמִלָּה דִּקְשׁוֹט.

Dreams

863. This is the way of a liar, that if he does not speak some truth, he cannot tell lies SO PEOPLE WOULD BELIEVE HIM. Here also, since they are mingled with truthful words HE SAW IN HIS DREAM, they disprove them, but LATER they tell him some truth to establish the false notions THEY GAVE HIM. Afterwards, it is spread to the lower SPIRITS below, who have no existence, nor validity. They announce the matter in the world to several sides and to some species.

863. דְּכַךְ אָרְחוֹי דִּכְדִיבָא, דְּאִלְמָלֵא לָא נָטִיל מִלָּה דִּקְשׁוֹט, לָא יָכִיל לְתַקְּנָא כְּדִיבוֹי. אוּף הָכָא אִלֵּין, כֵּיוָן דְּמִתְעָרֵי בְּמִלֵּי קְשׁוֹט, וּמַכְחִישֵׁי לוֹן מִנֵּיהּ, מוֹדָעֵי לֵיהּ מִלָּה דִּקְשׁוֹט, בְּגִין לְקַיְּימָא כְּדִיבוֹי. לְבָתַר מִתְפַּשְּׂטָא הַהִיא מִלָּה, בְּאִינּוּן תַּתָּאֵי לְתַתָּא, דְּלֵית לוֹן קִיוּמָא. וְלָא מִתְקַיְּימֵי, וְאוֹדְעֵי מִילִין בְּעָלְמָא, לְכַמָּה סִטְרִין לְכַמָּה זַיְינִין.

864. From this chamber come out two spirits - now they are men, and now they turn into women. They go about the world in the air, and laugh at men in their dreams, appearing in the guise of pretty women in their dreams, and so take the passion of men. Also, to women they seem like men. They are called 'evil' and 'plague', as it is written, "No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling" (Tehilim 91:10).

864. מֵהֵיכָלָא דָּא, נָפְקִין תְּרֵין רוּחִין, דְּמִתְהַפְּכָאן, לְזִמְנִין גּוּבְרִין, לְזִמְנִין נָשִׁין, וְאִלֵּין אָזְלִין וְשָׁטָאן בְּעָלְמָא בַּאֲוֵירָא, וְחַיְיכָאן בִּבְנֵי נָשָׁא בְּגוֹ חֶלְמָא, וְאִתְחָזוּן לוֹן לְגוּבְרִין, כְּנָשִׁין שְׁפִירָן בְּחֵיזוּ דְּחֶלְמָא, וְנַטְלֵי תִּיאוּבְתָּא דְּבַר נָשׁ. אוּף הָכִי לְנָשִׁין, אִתְחָזוּן כְּגוּבְרִין, וְאִלֵּין אִקְרוּן רָעָה וְנֶגַע, כד"א לֹא תְאוּנֶּה אֵלֶיךָ רָעָה וְנֶגַע לֹא יִקְרַב בְּאָהֳלֶךָ.

865. These EVIL AND PLAGUE are called 'the lower spirits', who come out of the flame of the fire, for when the spirits above within the chamber travel, two flames of fire come out to hover about the world, and from them these two spirits, EVIL AND PLAGUE, were made. All this is on the side of defilement. Happy are the righteous who stayed away from these sides, and kept themselves from them. Of this it is written, "that they may keep you from the strange woman..." (Mishlei 7:5).

865. וְאִלֵּין אִקְרוּן רוּחֵי תַּתָּאֵי לְתַתָּא. דְּנַפְקֵי מִגּוֹ שַׁלְהוֹבָא דְּאֶשָּׁא. דְּכַד נַטְלִין אִלֵּין רוּחִין דִּלְעֵילָּא, דִּי בְּגוֹ הֵיכָלָא דָּא, נַפְקוּ תְּרֵי שַׁלְהוֹבֵי דְּאֶשָּׁא, וְאִלֵּין טָסָאן בְּעָלְמָא, וְאִתְעָבֵידוּ אִלֵּין תְּרֵין רוּחִין כַּדְקָא אַמָרָן, וְכֹלָּא בְּסִטְרָא דָּא מִסְאֲבָא. זַכָּאִין אִינּוּן צַדִּיקַיָּיא דְּאִתְמָנְעָן מִסִּטְרִין אִלֵּין וְאִסְתְּמָרוּ מִנַּיְיהוּ. וְעַל דָּא כְּתִיב, לִשְׁמָרְךָ מֵאִשָּׁה זָרָה וְגוֹ'.
