206. When Joseph walked the valley of the shadow of death and was brought down to Egypt, the Shechinah was with him, as it is written, "And Hashem was with Joseph" (Beresheet 39:2). Because the Shechinah was with him, whatever he did in his hand prospered. If he had something in his hand, but his master asked for something else, what was in his hand would turn into that which his master wanted, as it is written, "And his master saw that Hashem was with him, and that Hashem made all that he did prosper in his hand" (Ibid. 3). Assuredly, it "did prosper in his hand," for Hashem was with him.
206. יוֹסֵף אָזַל בְּגֵיא צַלְמָוֶת, וְנָחֲתוּ לֵיהּ לְמִצְרַיִם, שְׁכִינְתָא הֲוַת עִמֵּיהּ, הה"ד, וַיְהִי ה' אֶת יוֹסֵף, וּבְגִין דַּהֲוַת עִמֵּיהּ שְׁכִינְתָּא, בְּכָל מַה דַּהֲוָה עָבֵיד, הֲוָה מַצְלַח בִּידֵיהּ. דַּאֲפִילּוּ מַאי דַהֲוָה בִּידֵיהּ, וַהֲוָה תָּבַע לֵיהּ מָארֵיהּ בְּגַוְונָא אָחֳרָא, הֲוָה מִתְהַפֵּךְ בִּידֵיהּ, לְהַהוּא גַוְונָא דִּרְעוּתָא דְמָארֵיהּ הֲוָה רָעֵי בֵיהּ, כד"א וַיַּרְא אֲדוֹנָיו כִּי ה' אִתּוֹ וְכָל אֲשֶׁר הוּא עוֹשֶׂה ה' מַצְלִיחַ בְּיָדוֹ, מַצְלִיחַ בְּיָדוֹ וַדַּאי, כִּי ה' אִתּוֹ.
