Synopsis

Thought, we are told, is the beginning of all. In the beginning, there was no separation between thought, voice, and speech, as signified by the verse, "The Creator shall be one, and His Name One." Thought then expanded and was named Binah (Understanding) when it came to the place where the Spirit dwelt. The Spirit expanded and uttered a voice, which includes all forces and guides the speech.

Relevance

The energy flowing from this passage transports our souls back to the moment before creation, where all was one. This all-embracing unity radiates Light that returns our entire being back to an embryonic state when we were free of any negativity and defilement. This process has a refining and purifying effect on us, removing blockages and darkness from the recesses of our souls. The Light of rejuvenation ignites within us, giving us renewed strength and power to continue our spiritual transformation.

768. Come and see, Thought is the beginning of all. Thought is hidden inside and inscrutable. When thought further expanded, it came to where the spirit dwelt, and was there named Binah (understanding). Now it is not concealed as before, and though it is somewhat hidden, the spirit expands and utters a voice, which is composed of fire, water and wind, THE THREE COLUMNS north, south and east. This voice includes all forces, and guides the speech. It gives word its fixing, since it was sent from the place of the spirit and came to guide the word and utter correct words.

768. תָּא חֲזֵי, מַחְשָׁבָה רֵאשִׁיתָא דְכֹלָּא, וּבְגִין דְּאִיהִי מַחְשָׁבָה, אִיהִי לְגוֹ סְתִימָא וְלָא אִתְיְידַע. כָּךְ אִתְפַּשַּׁט הַאי מַחְשָׁבָה יַתִּיר, אַתְיָא לַאֲתַר דְּרוּחָא שַׁרְיָא, וְכַד מָטֵי לְהַהוּא אֲתַר אִקְרֵי בִּינָ"ה, וְהָא לָאו סָתִים כִּדְקְַמֵיתָא, וְאע"ג דְּאִיהוּ סָתֵים, הַאי רוּחָא אִתְפַּשַּׁט, וְאַפֵּיק קָלָא, כָּלֵיל מֵאֶשָּׁא וּמַיָא וְרוּחָא, דְּאִינוּן צָפוֹן וְדָרוֹם וּמִזְרָח. וְהַאי קָלָא, כְּלָלָא דְּכָל שְׁאָר חֵילִין, וְקָלָא דָּא מַדְבַּר לְדִבּוּר, וְדָא יָהֵיב מִלָּה בְּתִקּוּנָא, בְּגִין דְּקוֹל אִשְׁתַּלַּח מֵאֲתַר דְּרוּחָא, וְאָתֵי לְדַבְּרָא מִלָּה, לַאֲפָקָא מִלִּין תְּרִיצִין.

769. וְכַד תִּסְתַּכֵּל בְּדַרְגִּין, הוּא מַחְשָׁבָה, הוּא בִּינָה, הוּא קוֹל, הוּא דִבּוּר, וְכֹלָּא חַד, וְהִיא הִיא מַחְשָׁבָה, רֵאשִׁיתָא דְכֹלָּא, וְלָא הֲוֵי פֵּרוּד, אֶלָּא כֹּלָּא חַד, וְקִשּׁוּרָא חַד, דְּאִיהוּ מַחְשָׁבָה מַמָּשׁ אִתְקַשַּׁר בְּאַיִן, וְלָא אִתְפָּרַשׁ לְעָלְמִין, וְדָא הוּא ה' אֶחָד וּשְׁמוֹ אֶחָד. וְעַל דָּא, הַנּוֹתֵן אִמְרֵי שָׁפֶר כְּתִיב, דָּא גוּפָא.
